Bad Münstereifel City

The town centre is really a heritage jewel protected by law. Proud mansions of one-time rich merchants, carefully restored half-timbered houses, pitoresque corners and quiet alleys. The “Café of Heino “ ( a popular German singer of folk songs ) is located near the “Kneipp Kurhaus”. You can reach the town centre on foot in about 30 minutes (2,5 km), by car the distance is 5 kilometres.

Excursions

In close neighborhood you find well preserved remains of the Roman era, such as the lime kilns at Iversheim and parts of the Roman aqueduct, which transported water from the Eifel to Cologne. Near Mechernich-Kommern there is an open-air museum, where you can get a vivid impression of what life was like in, by gone times. Meadows, woods an forests invite you to extendet walks.  A special experience within easy reach is the “ Eifel – National-Park” , where you can book walks,guidet by rangers. The source of the river “Ahr “ at Blankenheim, the picturesque “Ahr valley” with its vineyards and charming wine villages are not far away. The Moselle and the volcanic Eifel lakes are suited for a day’s outing.

Bad Münstereifel-Effelsberg

Further into the highlands is the village of Effelsberg with the largest movable radio telescope of europe and its radar screen a hundred metres in diameter. There you can have outer space explained to you in words and pictures.
